Benedict Coughlin spent his high school days reading Russian novels and hiking and hunting whenever he could. Before finishing college, he decided to join the Marines, with whom he made two deployments to the middle east. After graduating from Thomas Aquinas College, he worked as a gardener and landscape designer while also teaching high school on the side. Teaching a class on political philosophy to young students made him want to go back to school and specialize in political philosophy.
